“Did the water come from the sky, or the rivers, or the ocean?”

That’s our “next president” down in Louisiana, surveying the flooding damage.

And no, I’m not making that up.

I’m sure there is some explanation.

The Olds

And no, I’m not talking about the Republican party.

While we are all aging, we still have to take care of those older than us.

My friends are taking care of two aging kittehs.  I’m dealing with an aging Dora.

Tonight, Dora seemed to have a little leg that went to sleep.  It wouldn’t be a big deal with any other dog, except Dora only has three to start with.  She was distressed, but between Caroline and I we got her back up on the bed and happy. Caroline is watching over Dora now — quite a change, since Dora has always been Caroline’s protector and cleaner — as it were.

Watching Dora calm as she ages is something I rejoice, but also dread.  I love the gentler calmer Dora, but I also know that caring for her will involve risks.  I deal with her delicately.  I know she loves me, but her instinct is to defend herself no matter what.  I can only hope that she remembers I have never hurt her.  Even after all these years, she trusts Caroline more than me — because of what idiot hunters did to her.

I’m thinking that in addition to play time with Dora, I’ll add a little massage.  She’s been a wonderful dog always.  She makes me feel safe — especially since the fire.  She was the one who saved us all that night.

Here’s to taking care of the olds.  They mean so much to us and end up being such babies, which makes us love them all the more.

There is No Way Islam Can Take on Rap

Just an observation.  Rap is a protest song that transcends all religions or creeds.

Freedom is the key, and Rap is the voice.

In Mali, the Islam bullies may be winning now, but there is a voice of rap in the cities.  It is the voice of freedom.

How ironic.

If Romney Gets 61% of the White People’s Vote, He Wins

That’s what he is aiming for.

This — Mali — worries me so much

On the PBS Newshour tonight, there was a report about Mali.  Some group calling itself Al-Qaida and the Tuareg, have taken over the northern part of the country.

If Al Quieda was not enough, the Tuareg are in on it; they are modern day slave holders.

This is not good.

Perhaps our CIA is busy — maybe the African Union will take notice.  No wonder one of my student’s mother told her not to come home — that was more than a year ago.

I can only hope someone in the State Department is doing something.

Despite all of the racism in our country, we need all of Africa on our side.

I’m doing my part.  What are you doing?

Silly Kitteh!

From the NY Daily News via my new favorite blog Daily Intel at the NY Mag.

This kitteh survived.

For All of the Crappiness of NBC, They Got This One Right

It was a perfect set up to a beautiful race.  NBC profiled Mohamed Farah and his mate Galen Rupp.  After 25 minutes, the greatest thing in the wold happened:  the training mates went one two.  I was screaming.

I was afraid it wouldn’t happen but it did.

Michael Phelps is a Shark Fan!

I knew that guy had a good soul.  Phelps wants to swim with sharks along with South African Olympian Chad le Clos.  Sharks are one of his favorite animals.

I love sharks.  Swimming with them is on my bucket list.  I use shark awareness as a tool when I teach advanced writing.

I’m so proud of Michael Phelps for his swimming, and now for his views about sharks.

Take that Chinese!

Tonight’s Olympics

WOW

Gabby held the lead all the way.  It was great.  Like others before her, she will always be remembered for breaking yet another barrier.  The media still can’t deal with it — I noticed how she was out of so many shots, starting with the initial interview of the girls with Phelps.  Gabby was cut out of the pic.

No matter we’ll see what comes for this remarkable girl and her family.

Next, thankfully after tonight we won’t have to hear anymore about how Ryan Lochte is tired and flubs his swims.  He should enjoy his place of having won 5 medals now, because others will surpass him again, as always.  And did anyone catch his dad on tv?  No wonder he is a prick.  Apple tree all that.

Phelps could put the all time medal race away for as long as his predecessor this year.  I hope he does.

Here comes track and field!

Again, Gabby is the greatest!!!!!!

And sit down and shut up Lochte.
