Tomorrow Will Be Easy

Since my mom and sister are the Hardest Working People on the Planet, tomorrow will be easy for me.  Also too, I only have to make potatoes and gravy, and we have the afternoon shift.

My brother ordered turkey and some such, even though I offered to cook one for us this year in plenty of time.  Mom says it’s because she should be painting instead of cooking. *rolls eyes*  For people who have most of the year off since they cater to holiday sales, you would think that the rest of my family would get it, but they don’t.

Back to the potatoes.  I plan to try to make them as creamy as the best fried chicken places.  I will whip them in the Magimix and add milk, butter, cream cheese and sour cream.  YUM.

After years of trying, I will NOT make gravy at my mom’s house.  I cannot cook on an electric stove.  PERIOD.  Since I won’t have the store bought turkey to use for starters, I bought some turkey bacon to start the rue.  I’ll make the gravy her with that grease and some vegetable broth.   I’ll add the boiled eggs and some turkey bits when I reheat it tomorrow.  Not ideal, I know, but the gravy will be gravy without all of the “that’s never gonna get thick” I have heard the past few years.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I Call Bullshit

Some wanker in Georgia is getting his 15 minutes of fame:

WACO, Ga. — A west Georgia business owner is stirring up controversy with signs he posted on his company’s trucks, for all to see as the trucks roll up and down roads, highways and interstates:

“New Company Policy: We are not hiring until Obama is gone.”

“Can’t afford it,” explained the employer, Bill Looman, Tuesday evening. “I’ve got people that I want to hire now, but I just can’t afford it. And I don’t foresee that I’ll be able to afford it unless some things change in D.C.”

Looman’s company is U.S. Cranes, LLC.  He said he put up the signs, and first posted pictures of the signs on his personal Facebook page, six months ago, and he said he received mostly positive reaction from people, “about 20-to-one positive.”

But for some reason, one of the photos went viral on the Internet on Monday.

And the reaction has been so intense, pro and con, he’s had to have his phones disconnected because of the non-stop calls, and he’s had to temporarily shut down his company’s website because of all the traffic crashing the system.

Looman made it clear, talking with 11Alive’s Jon Shirek, that he is not refusing to hire to make some political point; it’s that he doesn’t believe he can hire anyone, because of the economy. And he blames the Obama administration.

I know what it is like to operate without enough people.  I also know what it’s like to try to run something without enough qualified people.  This joker is just that:  a joker.  If he needs more workers to make his business profitable, he would hire anyone he could get, just like my department has.  ANYONE.  We are so desperate we are hiring retired people.

He obviously doesn’t have enough work for the people he’s got employed.  He obviously is fishing for business.

I know what it is like to operate without enough good people.  This guy is NOT doing that.

Wanker.

I Need to Start Blogging Again

I have been bad about this blogging thing.  Sometimes life just over-powers everything else.

There is the situation at school:  funny stories there.

There is the visit of my old friend:  I should have taken pictures.

There is the ongoing political humor that I have not joined.

There is the local problem of people intimidating voters, which I need to get back to.

There has been so much that I just couldn’t get it together to post.

No more excuses from me.  I will get back to posting more . . . which will include more information on the plague that is talk radio, local edition, as well as the plague local blog edition.

She’s Gone

Little Bit is gone from the Houston SPCA web site.

I will keep checking, but it looks like she is sleeping in a forever home tonight.

Sweet dreams sweet girl.   I love you.

Since My Mom is Old

She won’t ever see this judge and presumed pillar of the community do pretty much what she did to me.

Here’s a link to the video.

I remember the day that I knew I was strong enough to challenge her.  I was younger than the girl in the video, though she was disabled.  That explains a lot and I mean that in a negative way.   Folks in Texas don’t take to people with disabilities even if they are in your own family.  That’s what praying to Jesus and knowing it all gets you.

I can only hope that I live in a world without my mother.  Sure, we have to play nice now, but I hope hope hope I will out live her.

I hope to one day tell my niece that granny beat her — bit her even — and at the same time didn’t beat or bite her sisters.  For the same offenses.  Just like she beat me and didn’t beat my sister or brother.

It’s hard being a middle child in my family.

Sure, my mom is a pretty good Granny, but when my middle niece was little, my mom and sister beat her.

I know this happened and it’s one of the reasons I encourage my middle neice to write.

Just for clarification, when my mom hit me in the mouth, while I had a mouth full of braces, I turned on her.

She is still alive.  That’s all I’ve got to say.
