Newt Wins the Day

or so it seems.  Having failed to get Pelosi to resign, he has gotten Politico to do his bidding on the SCOTUS pick.

Peeling off blue dogs is what they are after.

Let’s look at what makes a racist since that seems to be the problem.  I’d say a racist is a person who over and over again claims that blacks and hispanics are inferior.  I’d say that anyone claiming that a Jewish Justice was the first hispanic Justice is probably a racist.  I’d say that anyone calling her a racist haxs already been called a racist before this moment in history.

It’s funny how the racists call others the same s0 often.

It’s funny how a disgraced man has the cojones to point a finger at anyone.

It’s funny how they won’t win this.

I like the idea that Sotomayor will browbeat  Scalia and Thomas.  That’s what I want.  That’s why I voted for the guy.

  1. Orrin Hatch was on NPR this morning & went through the usual song and dance about how he hopes his fellow Repos won’t treat Sotomayor poorly, even though Dems have been so mean to past Repo nominees, and he would therefore understand, although he himself will of course be the soul of civility … on the question of reproductive rights he did say that it would be absurd for anybody in his party to think that Obama would appoint anybody who wasn’t pro-choice and that shouldn’t be an issue … he’s all about the ‘activism on the bench’ thing … From an entirely nerdy standpoint of the confirmation hearings themselves (having watched so many all the way through at the Law Library back in the day: Bork, pothead Ginsburg (not Ruth!) and of course the riveting Thomas-Hill shootout) I’m interested in what the dynamics on the committee will now be, with both Specter & Biden gone (or does Specter remain, but subservient to Leahy?) … Scalia’s much-touted “intellectual firepower” has always struck me as being a combination of bullying and slightly sophomoric shock-appeal (he’s ‘bright’ in the way undergraduates who write for the National Review are ‘bright’), gold-leaf rather than gold-brick … and as for the nutty digressions about ‘first Hispanic’ on the bench, Portuguese are NOT Hispanic, never have been, never will be … therefore, for accuracy’s sake one could say that Sotomayor will be the 2nd justice on the bench to come from (distant) Iberian background …
