This morning, Kevin Wall (a former sports announcer) was the guest host for Bill Bennett, and for part of the program he was stating that the recently passed (95-0) Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act limited businesses in their hiring practices. Later, he added that because insurance companies use actuary tables, they should be able to use genetic information and that those people with the potential for medical issues should pay higher insurance premiums.
So, got that? Those of us — who by the way have no control over who their parents or ancestors are — who may have a predisposition to certain medical conditions should not only be charged more for insurance, but also have that same condition as a hurtle to employment. That’s called a double-bind.
